Sean Bolans Menu

We have eaten here at least 10 times, we've always had something different and I can honestly say none of it has been bad. This is some of the best food in town! It can get a bit loud downstairs so unless you are going to watch a game I would say try to eat upstairs. Everybody who works there is always nice, you never get the sense that they don't enjoy their jobs. The Guinness stew, the pork chop, the crab cakes, the onion rings, and the bread pudding are some of our favorites. It really is just wonderful food and a great place to eat.

Great place, in a great little town. They have it all good food, service and atmosphere. The employees are all really nice and seem to enjoy their jobs. If I lived down the street and had money to always go out, I would be here every night.

Roasted red pepper, crab, and gouda soup is outstanding. Good atmosphere, good beer selection. Definitely recommend!

My favorite watering hole. Great food, great drinks and awesome atmosphere. Ive had everything on their menu and have yet to be disappointed. One of the greatest Reubens, period!

Favorite Bar in Bel Air. Beer selection is interesting. Food is incredible. Service is friendly and the atmosphere is cozy.

Great Irish pub, their chicken pot pie is luxuriously creamy and worth the indulgence if you're a health freak like me. They also have the best wings in Bel Air.

Some very good food here! Great wings, half price burgers on Sunday's hand patted and cooked they way you ordered it - no Sysco 1/4 pound beef patties here. Steak night on Wednesday is probably the best place.to get a NY strip in the area if that's the cut of.meat you like. The Irish Stew, Fish and Chips, Roasted Red Pepper Soup and Sheppard 's Pie all are very good! Great snack is the soft pretzel with in house prepared Jameson ' s mustard, it is spicy though. Crab cake is mediocre in my opinion, but most in the area are. Overall a place that is often overlooked in Bel Air and worth a try.

The traffic on 95 to Baltimore for our culinary adventure was so bad we diverted to Bel Air Maryland. What a nice find at Sean Bolan's Irish Pub. Great bar setup. A downstairs and an up. We chose up for the view overlooking the town center. My friend had the Banger Sandwich with champ( Irish mashed potatoes) plus a cup of the Irish stew and strangely enough for an Irish pub- a hot soft pretzel. He loved it all. ME: An overflowing bowl of Irish Stew chocked full of lamb pieces, sweet carrots and potatoes. The broth reminded me of a Guinness broth from Dublin. This filled me up like an entree would. The Guineas was poured perfectly and was a nice accompaniment to a nice meal. Service: Very Good.

I love the Irish bar atmosphere of this place. Great beer selection, good bar food, and they regularly have good live music. They're open on holidays, which is great when you're in town and want to escape for a little bit on Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc.

I've been here a ton of times for small parties. You can rent the back room in the upstairs and it's a great place for about 15-20 people to hang out. The food is really good. Wings, onion rings, and crab dip are tasty. The shepherds pie and fish and chips are good as well. Good beer selection. Good spot for a group outting or a party.

  • Leo L.

Very good place! People there were nice and the food was good! Absolutely the fried green tomatoes! Would consider this place as one of the best to go in Harford County

Great food, great atmosphere. Best place to grab a beer in Bel Air. First place we go on St Patty's Day

Greatest place on Earth. Period. Ask Kat about the specials! She loves talking to people!

  • Jalisa J.

Sean Bolan's is quite, quaint and laid back. Their food isn't the best (the last time I went, I ordered a burger and it was overcooked), but they do have a good selection of beers for those who are beer snobs

    (3)
  • Gill G.

Classic Irish Bar. Guinness, Great Food and they have a good place upstairs to have private parties. The food doesn't get the notoriety it should, maybe that's because of the beer selection. Sean Bolan's sits in the heart of town where the courteous staff waits to pour you a pint. Not a huge menu but I've had the Shepherds Pie, filet, fish and soups are awesome. This is a staple for locals every week and not just March 17th! Go Irish, go to Bolan's.

Fun place. Good food, good service, fair prices. Irish stew and fish and chips for my guy. He loved it. I had the chicken pear salad. It was tops. It must have been a real Irish pub because you can smell the beer when you walk in. Upstairs is best if you're eating a meal. We will be back.

Good beer selection, ok service, mediocre food, mussels are good though. Good happy hours.

Usually very happy with Irish Pubs. However, this was an exception. We came on a Monday evening, hardly a busy time. In short, our waitress seemed upset to tell us about thier beer selection (which was good). Then took 45 minutes before we could order dinner. The Reuben sandwich is good. She kept disappearing throughout our stay. What I'm assuming was the manager came to tell us they were out of a particular beer we ordered. At first seemed courteous, but then concluded my beer delivery with " hopefully there's nothing wrong with THIS beer, after I mentioned I didn't like a particular tap they had. Attitudes in customer service are never needed. My party of 7 really tried to overcome with kindness after the beer mix up, but were still left in a corner with an empty beer glass.

Bolans is hands down the best place to eat, drink, and have a good time in Harford County. Excellent food, nice beer selection, and awesome service.

It's a pretty cool place, and has an authentic Irish feel. I had corned beef and cabbage eggrolls and the fish and chips, both were excellent. Seemed to be a nice regular crowd in there, which got a little loud, but...it is a bar. The waitress didn't even know what kind of top shelf scotches they carry, I agree with the other reviewer that training your staff on your bar selection is paramount. Prices hover on too expensive, but don't quite cross the line. All in all, a good place.

So I'm Irish...I can't help falling into the local pub where ever I may be. We have been Sean Bolans more than a few times for a drink and a bite. I find it quite comfortable - the drinks, the food and the service have always been very good. It may seem a little small; although I'm told they have an upstairs area. We have had the burgers here - and they will cook them to order properly, so they are large and quite good. The Irish stew and the shepherd's pie are also very good (favorites of mine) - nice to see they are using lamb; it makes for a hearty, rich and authentic dish, I get a bowl of the Irish stew every time I visit. The fish and chips are great here too - the fish portion is huge! - tasty cod, although the chips are fries - but still very good. If you like a good Irish pub - Sean Bolans is a good place in the Belair area. Good Irish music with a good beer selection, (although I drink Guinness or Boddington's) make this a comfortable place to stop in for some good Irish food and drink

We've been in here a few times now. The beer selection is pretty good, the service is prompt, and the atmosphere authentic, albeit loud. The food, however, leaves much to be desired. The menu at Sean Bolan's simply does not differ much from MaGerks and Looneys. I'm surprised there's no corned beef and cabbage entree, or boxties. Everything we've tried has been really good, just not terribly authentic.

Great atmosphere. True Irish pub kind of feel. Great selection of beers. Food has always been delicious. Service usually quick and friendly. Only thing is when they have music, although the music is great, they stuff them back in a tiny corner of the upstairs that makes them hard to hear in a lot of areas. But other than that, love it!!!

  • Brian R.

As far as Irish pubs are concerned this is the only one in Bel Air. Craft beer selection rotates, and is the best in Harford county. The pub grub is good, and offers Irish/American fair as well as local Maryland grub. I would give it five stars if they had some live Irish music! Other than that, the bar, food, atmosphere, and service is great. Only bar in Bel Air I would recommend.

  • Chris W.

This is my favorite bar in Bel Air, to the point where I usually won't consider going anywhere else. They have solid standby beers from Guiness and rotate many delicious brews through the taps that are always a blast to try. I've had some kind of red-pepper soup there that was delicious, I've had a steak there that was great, the reuben was good, hell, even their soft pretzel is good. Great drinks, great food, this is the total package for going out with some friends to hang out.

  • Diana D.

Great Irish food in the Bel Air downtown area. Be sure to call ahead and reserve a table for dinner for parties of 6 or more. The downstairs bar area gets really crowded and the wait can get long for dinner on a friday or saturday night. The shepherd's pie is delish.

This is my favorite bar in Bel Air. Nice staff, good bar food, decent beer selection, and the patrons are nice. Get the Irish Nachos, and a Reuben, and the soup with cheese and crab.

Sean Bolan, do use some vinegar or 409 to clean the sticky stair rails and tables. (Even once a day!) This is a tavern, although families are fine upstairs in the afternoon. It is very noisy, with all the wood. The bar is a happy hang-out, at 1pm on a Saturday. The food was okay. The mussels were very tasty, but lukewarm and served without a spoon. I used a shell for the broth, with no waitress in sight. My husband's fried fish was watery (formerly frozen) inside, although it looked pretty. Salads were very good, with local-tasting tomatoes. I would try more food items in the future, but I do like to talk with my companions, so I would come off-hours.

Good service, the bar tenders know their stuff. Good table service, the waiters are always nice, fast and knowledgeable about the menu. The chief is great, always has something new. Great place for a quit beer alone or with good friends.

First time there despite living only 5 minutes away. We skipped through the bar area and headed upstairs to the more restaurant area. It has a nice, casual pub feel to it. Staff was prompt and welcoming and we were quickly seated. Wife and I tried the Shepherd's pie, crab dip and the beer battered fish and chips. The portions were very ample (we took half of it home). Everything was delicious. An acoustic guitarist/singer arrived around 11pm and, for us parents that don't get frequent escapes, the music was just the right tone and volume to complement the atmosphere.

I've been to Sean Bolan's a number of times and have pretty much been disappointed every time as I simply feel like they have never lived up to my expectations. With the beer selection they carry, you would think that they would educate their employee's about beer, the difference of styles and the importance of keeping their stock maintained properly. On more than one occasion I've seen incorrect information on their beer board (one time they attempted to state that Brewer's Art Ozzy was 9% Alcohol) as well as draft beer that had definitely gone bad (more than likely due to lack of proper tap and line maintenance). Food has always been quite well received by me and I really enjoy their Red Bell Pepper, Crab and Gouda soup (though they tend to not heat it enough and if you get a big bowl it will be cold before you get half way through). Expect most all of the traditional Irish style foods as well, the Shepards Pie of which is one of my favorites. They have a lot of great live bands on the weekends if you are into local music in a more intimate atmosphere than your usual club.

I always have a good time at Bolans. It's best to go on a weekday night as the bar is crowded on the weekends. Great selection of beer and micro-brews. The bartender we had knew his beer and made some great suggestions. Had the corned beef and cabbage rolls appetizer and it was really good. We also had one of their soft pretzels with honey mustard which was delicious as well. Plus they have Resurrection on tap!

This is one of my favorite restaurant in Harford County. I have been here about 4 times for food and have had a good experience every time. The Rubin is great, the shepherds by is excellent, and the stuffed cabbage dish is incredible. I was never a big fan on Irish food, but this made me think twice.

  • Jamie S.

I've always been happy with my visit to Sean Bolans. I think it's because I always get a shivering nervousness whenever I am in Bel Air and have to deal with all that is (and is most certainly not) Bel Air. But that's another story all together. Sean Bolans has always felt like a respite, like I'm literally shaking off the cold when I come inside. If I can get a seat at the bar I'm a happy camper. Their food has always been consistent and their taps are pretty good for the area. I can agree on how they don't quite live up to the expectation that I wish they would. They don't have the fake-ass Irish feel. They do Irish right. But they could use more education on their beers and this is where the line is drawn between restaurant workers and proper bar tenders. An Irish bar needs a proper bar tender first and foremost. But I thank you for having a traditional cider on tap and not that over sweetened American candy either.

  • Mike Y.

Pretty good bar for being in Bel Air. Food has also been good. We like the cheese fries, although the type of fry could be better. Crab soup was good, and the chicken fingers are excellent (beer battered!). As for the selection of beer, it is one of the better ones in Harford County.

    (4)
  • Heather K.

Plenty of beers on tap, including higher alcohol micro-brews. Yum! Fridays and Saturdays you might find way too many townies, but you can drown your annoyances in Hoegaarden or Yuengling on tap. I haven't tried the food yet, but the bartender aren't a-holes, so I'm happy!

    (4)
  • Sarah W.

I crave their chicken tenders at least once a week. They are the best tenders I have ever had, I am drooling thinking about them. The fried green tomato BLT is also great, as is their soft pretz's (the Jameson mustard is so much yum). Beer selection is good and the bartenders are always pleasant. Now excuse me while I convince my boyfriend to bring me some of the tenders...

Excellent food...Irish pub grub but with a high quality twist on ingredients and good attention to detail. I've admittedly only eaten here once, but honestly I was pretty blown away by the quality of the food. Whoever is in the kitchen clearly cares a lot about what's going out the door and into the dining room. Very eager to go back and try some other items on the menu. The salmon wrap and the fries are delicious.

Nice and friendly server. Good selection of beers and spirits. Good sized menu with lots of entrees to chose from. I got a beer and the Bolan's Steak Salad. Steak was good and not over cooked. The salad ingredients were fresh and crisp. I had a wonderful dining experience here and I will be back soon. Thank you for reading my review. This review is based off of my personal experience and opinion.

Don't bother. This restaurant can't keep a good chef, so you never know what you'll get. The service isn't good, either; sad, because it's a great location. I ordered soup. It arrived cool. I had to get up to find the waitress and ask her to have it heated. She said she'd come over "when she had a chance." (She was talking to another waitress at the bar.) Never going back. I had an excellent meal there last summer, but there are other restaurants in the area I'll try before returning here, sadly.

A good solid restaurant. Exactly what you would expect for an Irish pub. Good staff and good food. Nothing outstanding or above and beyond.

    (4)
  • Gerald F.

The soups are always the best. Crab Gouda. And seafood. Only wish I had the recipe. Got the fried green tomatoes with crab topping. Pub fried tomatoes. Must have been topped with a half pound of pure fresh chilled 100% lump back fin piled on. Maybe more. Fish n chips was awesome too.

Amazing food. Good afters hour atmosphere. You will pay for the food bit it is worth it. Stay after 11 and you will have better an experience than any bar in town. Best guiness in the state .

Good bar food--more choices than your average Irish pub. Can't go wrong with the fish and chips or the fried green tomatoes with lump crab on top. Fun atmosphere.

Excellent service and food! Excellent beer selection; always different varieties on tap and I've never been disappointed in a meal.

The best steak I've ever had!! A filet mignon with 2 sides for $14.95, you can't beat that! The mussels were great too! Great atmosphere!

Went to this place on our way to the mall. Really good fresh food. I had the lamb burger - very good

Great food. Great service. Best pub burger and fries I've had in years. The Guinness ain't bad either (of course, it never is). :)

Great food and good beer. Krista was friendly and very attentive. We will be coming back. Get the loaded fries for the appetizer.

    (5)
  • R H.

Decent food, attentive and professional staff, nice craft beer selection on tap and in bottle. But this place loses points in one area: $6 for a pint of Guinness is outrageous. It's a 4% light beer (even though it's dark, it's still light)! Even the craft beer that has more flavor and even more alcohol is cheaper. Definitely a good stop though.

    (3)
  • Steph P.

It would amaze anyone in Harford county to walk into a place with a vast craft beer selection and a bartending staff in which you know everyone's first name. The food is great, the beer is better and if you're looking for a place to call home before home, this is it. With a chalkboard wall updated with craft brews from here in Maryland to out west, you are sure to find something that suits you. Whether you're looking for good Irish pub food, a good beer or good conversation, you have to look no further than the best kept secret in Harford counties own backyard.

We stopped for lunch here today. Service was good and the food was great. A highly enjoyable experience. I had the stuffed cabbage and it was excellent. Great atmosphere and a nice town

  • Billy F.

I've been here many times for the simple reason of quality. Never had lousy service or bad food and the Guinness is always cold. The atmosphere has always been cheery and pleasant. The best fish and chips I've ever had and the BBQ Porterhouse Pork Chop is a must try.
